Trong bối cảnh đại dịch Covid-19 đang ảnh hưởng nghiêm trọng đến nhiều ngành hàng, nhiều doanh nghiệp (DN), song suốt những tháng qua không ít startup Việt liên tục thông tin về các khoản rót vốn triệu USD. Đó là những tín hiệu tốt cho giới startup nhưng có lẽ cũng không cần quá tô hồng. Đã đến lúc câu chuyện rót vốn phải được nhìn nhận xác thực hơn.
Một điểm đến của các startup công nghệ.
Liên tục gọi được vốn
Cuối tháng 2, Siêu Việt Group, đơn vị sở hữu 4 trang tuyển dụng trực tuyến tại Việt Nam, cho biết quỹ Affirma Capital đã chấp thuận đầu tư 34 triệu USD vào công ty này.
Khoản đầu tư sẽ giúp Siêu Việt củng cố, mở rộng thị phần cũng như triển khai các dịch vụ giá trị gia tăng cho khách hàng. Cũng trong thời điểm này, Go2joy – startup đặt phòng ngắn hạn tại Việt Nam, cũng nhận được khoản vốn 2,5 triệu USD từ STIC Ventures và nhiều nhà đầu tư khác trong vòng gọi vốn series A.
Tới tháng 3, STI cho biết cũng hoàn tất khoản đầu tư vào JupViec, một nền tảng công nghệ giúp kết nối người có nhu cầu giúp việc với các hộ gia đình. Con số cụ thể không được tiết lộ, nhưng STI cho biết con số đầu tư lên tới hàng triệu USD.
Cũng không tiết lộ con số đầu tư cụ thể, eDortor một startup cung cấp dịch vụ y tế và chăm sóc sức khỏe ứng dụng công nghệ di động, cho biết đã nhận vốn từ 4 quỹ lớn là CyberAgent Ventures, Genesia Venture, Bon Angels và Nextrans.
Qua tháng 4, BuyMed, một startup B2B về phân phối dược phẩm trực tuyến (thuocsi.vn), công bố nhận được khoản đầu tư trị giá 2,5 triệu USD trong vòng tiền series A.
Nguồn vốn mới sẽ được BuyMed sử dụng đẩy mạnh sự phát triển tại Việt Nam và các nước Đông Nam Á. Cũng trong tháng 4, OnPoint, nhà cung cấp dịch vụ hỗ trợ phát triển thương mại điện tử, công bố gọi vốn thành công 8 triệu USD từ một số nhà đầu tư.
Tháng 5, startup tuyển dụng ứng dụng AI và máy học JobHopin, cũng công bố gọi vốn thành công 2,45 triệu USD trong vòng series A, nâng tổng số vốn gọi được đến thời điểm này lên hơn 3 triệu USD.
Tháng 6, giới khởi nghiệp tiếp tục sôi động khi Propzy, startup trong lĩnh vực proptech (ứng dụng công nghệ vào bất động sản), công bố gọi vốn thành công 25 triệu USD. Dẫn đầu vòng rót vốn lần này vào Propzy là Gaw Capital và SoftBank Ventures Asia, quỹ chuyên đầu tư vào startup châu Á giai đoạn đầu của tập đoàn Nhật Bản SoftBank.
Bên cạnh những con số triệu USD, nhiều startup cũng nhận được đầu tư trong những tháng đầu năm 2020, như nền tảng tuyển dụng nhân sự TopCV nhận được 10 tỷ đồng đầu tư từ NextTech gourp và Quỹ đầu tư khởi nghiệp Next 100.tech.
Hay ChatBot cũng nhận được khoản đầu tư nửa triệu USD từ 2 đơn vị nói trên. Theo dự báo từ nay đến cuối năm dòng vốn đổ vào startup Việt sẽ tiếp tục gia tăng. Dòng vốn này không chỉ đến từ Nhật Bản, Hàn Quốc, Đông Nam Á mà còn mở rộng ra những khu vực mới.
Đừng vội khen
Trước hết, cần biết rằng để nhận được vốn đầu tư, nhất là những khoản vốn khủng, các startup phải khẳng định được mình xứng đáng vượt qua giai đoạn dịch Covid-19, khi nhiều startup phải chia tay “cuộc chơi”.
Thứ 2, để đi đến thỏa thuận rót vốn, nhà đầu tư và startup phải mất vài tháng thậm chí vài năm để tiếp xúc, tìm hiểu. Chưa hết, đằng sau các con số khủng được công bố, những bản hợp đồng, cam kết chỉ có các bên liên quan mới biết. Sau nhiều vụ sụp đổ của các startup đình đám, nhà đầu tư càng trở nên thận trọng hơn.
Ai có thể khẳng định nhà đầu tư khi đổ vốn đơn giản vì thấy startup đó tiềm năng, có thể đi đường dài mà không có những toan tính khác. Đã từng có cảnh báo các startup hết sức thận trọng khi nhận vốn trong giai đoạn này vì có thể bị nhà đầu tư ép giá.
Đó là chưa kể nhà đầu tư có thể công bố những con số đầu tư khủng, từ đó thổi phồng những thành công bước đầu, nâng cao giá trị doanh nghiệp, thu hút thêm nhà đầu tư và sau một thời gian có thể bán lại với giá hời.
Ngược lại, cũng khó biết được việc hút được nguồn vốn khủng là bởi startup đó thực sự chất. Trong lịch sử startup thế giới đã có những cú lừa nhà đầu tư đầy ngoạn mục, như câu chuyện của Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, sáng lập của Theranos từ hình tượng nữ tỷ phú tự thân đã trở thành kẻ nói dối vĩ đại.
Nhìn lại những startup Việt được nhận vốn nêu trên, có thể thấy đa phần là startup công nghệ. Thế nhưng quỹ đầu tư ra đời sớm nhất tại Việt Nam là Mekong Capital lại đang từ chối đầu tư vào các startup công nghệ.
Ông Chris Freund, sáng lập viên của quỹ này, cho biết nhiều mô hình kinh doanh thiếu hợp lý và cảnh báo lĩnh vực này có dấu hiệu “bong bóng”. Đó là việc những năm gần đây các quỹ đầu tư vào thị trường không ít các chương trình gọi vốn như shark tank (cá mập) một thời cực kỳ thu hút.
Thế nhưng sau khi những nguồn vốn được công bố, thực tế số lượng startup nhận được vốn rất ít. Khi nói đến nguyên nhân, đa phần “cá mập” cho rằng các startup đã không minh bạch khi nói về mình, nên sau khi thẩm định lại không thể rót vốn, dù đã công bố con số trước đó.
Sự tô hồng những con số, những thành công bước đầu của startup có thể khiến startup tiếp cận nhanh hơn với tệp khách hàng của mình, mở rộng kinh doanh, tiếp cận thêm nhà đầu tư mới. Song nó cũng trở thành con dao 2 lưỡi khi startup gặp khó khăn hay thất bại. Dĩ nhiên thất bại trong kinh doanh, nhất là với các startup, là chuyện bình thường thậm chí tỷ lệ thất bại lên tới 80-90%.
Vì thế, nếu quá tô hồng sẽ đẩy các bạn trẻ tìm mọi cách startup, xây app cho bất cứ hoạt động nào một cách thiếu thực tế, thiếu tính sáng tạo, rồi mong chờ vào các nhà đầu tư rót vốn.
