Theo tính toán của Bloomberg, Ping An chứng khiến giá trị cổ phần tại HSBC bay hơi ít nhất 8,6 tỷ USD trong vòng 3 năm qua. “Tình trạng này khiến các nhà đầu tư kỳ cựu đánh mất niềm tin vào cổ phiếu của HSBC. Đây là dấu hiệu rất xấu”, chuyên gia Benny Lee, giám đốc Plotio Financial Group, nhận định.
Hồi tháng 3, chính phủ Anh yêu cầu các ngân hàng lớn – trong đó có HSBC – hủy chi cổ tức hơn 10 tỷ USD vì tác động của dịch Covid-19. Các nhà đầu tư của HSBC phản ứng dữ dội với chính sách này. Ngoài ra, chính phủ Trung Quốc cũng “tỏ thái độ” với HSBC vì vai trò của ngân hàng này trong cuộc điều tra Huawei Technologies do chính phủ Mỹ thực hiện.
Sự lo lắng càng gia tăng khi Global Times đưa tin HSBC có thể bị chính phủ Trung Quốc cho vào danh sách “các thực thể nước ngoài không đáng tin cậy”. Những công ty có tên trong danh sách này sẽ bị hạn chế về thương mại, đầu tư và thị thực tại Trung Quốc.
