Nhiều nhà lãnh đạo thuộc ngành công nghiệp tài chính ủng hộ ứng viên đảng Dân chủ Joe Biden thay vì Tổng thống Mỹ đương nhiệm Donald Trump, bất chấp việc chiến thắng của ông Biden có thể gây ảnh hưởng tiêu cực đến ngành.

Áp thuế cao hơn
Việc Nhà Trắng và Quốc hội ủng hộ xóa bỏ các quy định và Cục Dự trữ Liên bang (FED) duy trì lãi suất thấp đã giúp thúc đẩy thị trường trong vài năm qua. Tuy nhiên, theo một phân tích gần đây của S&P Market Intelligence, kế hoạch đề xuất thuế của ông Biden có thể làm tăng 7 tỷ USD thuế doanh nghiệp mỗi năm cho 10 ngân hàng hàng đầu quốc gia như JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs và Morgan Stanley.
Trên thực tế, việc ông Biden tăng thuế nếu giành chiến thắng sẽ ảnh hưởng phần nào đến lợi nhuận của các gã khổng lồ tài chính – ngân hàng. Tuy nhiên, nó không phải một thảm họa đối với họ, theo CNN.
Các nhà phân tích của S&P nhấn mạnh rằng mức thuế doanh nghiệp cao hơn có thể thúc đẩy định giá ngân hàng. Nguyên nhân là nhiều ngân hàng lớn có tài sản thuế thu nhập hoãn lại. Tài sản này đại diện cho khoản tiết kiệm trong tương lai, giúp bù đắp thuế suất cao hơn.

Chiến thắng của ứng viên đảng Dân chủ cũng có thể dẫn đến mức thuế thu nhập cá nhân cao hơn đối với tầng lớp thượng lưu và người giàu. “Nhưng bạn không thể nhìn vào bức tranh thuế mà không phân tích đến việc nền kinh tế sẽ như thế nào khi ông Trump hoặc ông Biden tung nhiều kích thích hơn”, CNN viết.
“Các ngân hàng hàng đầu sẽ phải đối phó với bất cứ sự thay đổi nào trong môi trường thuế hoặc quy định. Và bất kỳ chính sách mới nào hỗ trợ tầng lớp trung lưu cũng gia tăng niềm tin, giúp người tiêu dùng vay nhiều hơn”, ông Elliott Savage, Giám đốc danh mục đầu tư của Quỹ YCG, bình luận.
Thúc đẩy lợi nhuận ngân hàng
Thuế sẽ cao như thế nào vào năm 2021 chỉ là một phần của câu đố về lợi nhuận. Đối với nhiều ngân hàng, kỳ vọng lãi suất tiếp tục thấp và triển vọng của nền kinh tế mới là vấn đề lớn.
“Các doanh nghiệp quản lý tài sản sẽ làm tốt hơn ngân hàng thương mại”, ông Scott Knapp, chiến lược gia thị trường của CUNA Mutual Group, nhận định.
Đó là lý do vì sao nhiều ngân hàng đang tìm cách thúc đẩy hoạt động tư vấn và các hoạt động kinh doanh thu phí khác. Chẳng hạn, hôm 8/9, Morgan Stanley thông báo về việc mua lại công ty quản lý quỹ Eaton Vance với giá 7 tỷ USD, chỉ vài ngày sau khi hoàn tất mua E-Trade.
Theo ông Savage, các ngân hàng hàng đầu cũng có khả năng thu hút nhiều tiền gửi hơn từ người tiêu dùng trong môi trường bất ổn. Họ luôn được coi là nơi an toàn nhất để giữ tiền mặt.
