Brooks Running lo ngại thuế quan của Mỹ đối với mặt hàng giày có thể lên tới 45% và gây bất lợi cho hoạt động của hãng.

Ngày 3/5 vừa qua, CEO Jim Weber cho biết Brooks Sports sẽ chuyển phần lớn các hoạt động sản xuất của mình từ Trung Quốc sang Việt Nam do các cuộc đàm phán thương mại giữa Washington và Bắc Kinh kéo dài mà chưa có kết luận chính thức.

Sau nhiều lần đổi chủ, công ty sản xuất trang phục và giày thể thao Brooks Sports (hay cũng được biết đến với tên gọi Brooks Running) đang thuộc sở hữu của Berkshire Hathaway – tập đoàn của huyền thoại đầu tư Warren Buffett. Hiện Brooks Running đã được tách ra thành một công ty độc lập do CEO Jim Weber điều hành và báo cáo trực tiếp với tỷ phú Warren Buffett.

Brooks Running vốn là một “chuyên gia” về giày chạy bộ đến từ Mỹ. Có thể với nhiều người Việt Nam, thương hiệu này có vẻ khá lạ lẫm so với nhiều tên tuổi nổi bật khác như Nike hay Adidas nhưng tại Mỹ và châu Âu, Brooks đã “làm mưa làm gió” trong nhiều năm trở lại đây.

Khi mới thành lập, Brooks chỉ sản xuất giày nữ rồi sau đó chuyển hướng sang giày thể thao với sản phẩm phục vụ cho môn bóng chày và bóng bầu dục. Tiếp đó, hãng mở rộng kinh doanh ra nhiều môn thể thao khác. Năm 2001, họ chính thức tập trung 100% để nghiên cứu và sản xuất giày chạy bộ. Đến nay, Brooks Running đã trở thành một trong những thương hiệu thể thao hàng đầu thế giới.

Phát ngôn viên của Brooks Running cho biết: “Chúng tôi cần bắt đầu lập kế hoạch để bảo đảm cho hoạt động kinh doanh của mình trong tương lai”.

Cuối năm ngoái, CEO Jim Weber đã khẳng định nếu công ty chuyển hoạt động sang Việt Nam hay một quốc gia nào khác thì đây sẽ là quyết định vĩnh viễn và không có sự thay đổi nữa.

Brooks Running rất quan tâm đến thuế quan đối với giày, đặc biệt là sau lời phát biểu của Tổng thống Donald Trump năm ngoái rằng ông sẽ áp dụng thêm mức thuế 25% đối với hàng hóa Trung Quốc, cộng với mức thuế 20% sẵn có đã tồn tại trong nhiều năm qua.

Theo người phát ngôn, đối với một đôi giày chạy bộ có giá 130 USD, mức thuế 45% sẽ là một “bất lợi đáng kể” đối với Brooks. Cuối cùng, công ty đã đưa ra quyết định  chung với các đối tác tại Trung Quốc vào đầu năm nay để chuyển một số hoạt động sản xuất ra khỏi đất nước tỷ dân.

Dữ liệu của Brooks từ năm ngoái cho thấy Trung Quốc chiếm 1/3 nhà máy của Brooks trên toàn thế giới trong khi 19% sản lượng của công ty được tạo ra tại Việt Nam. Hiện vẫn chưa rõ chính xác quy mô của hoạt động sản xuất được chuyển sang Việt Nam của Brooks là như thế nào.

Ngoài Brooks Running, năm ngoái, Adidas cũng cho biết trong thời gian tới, hoạt động sản xuất của họ sẽ dần được dịch chuyển từ Trung Quốc sang Việt Nam.

Mỹ và Trung Quốc vẫn đang trong giai đoạn đàm phán thương mại và Bộ trưởng Tài chính Mỹ Steven Mnuchin tuần vừa qua cho biết các cuộc trao đổi đều khá “hiệu quả”. Bắc Kinh và Washington đã nhắc đến tiến triển về một số vấn đề bao gồm các cách chấm dứt thuế quan đã gây ra gánh nặng cho nền kinh tế, làm gián đoạn chuỗi cung ứng và thị trường tài chính của cả hai nước. Các cuộc đàm phán thương mại sẽ tiếp tục diễn ra tại Washington vào tuần tới.
