Chủ tịch Tập đoàn NextTech khẳng định một trong những lý do ông ngồi ghế “cá mập” của Shark Tank là để tìm thêm mảnh ghép cho hệ sinh thái công nghệ của mình. Và mùa Shark Tank này, ít nhất có 1 startup đã hoàn thiện quá trình thẩm định để chính thức được nhận vốn.
Hình ảnh ông ngoài đời không khác nhiều so với trên truyền hình, vẫn một doanh nhân với góc nhìn độc đáo về chuyện khởi nghiệp kinh doanh hay chuyện học hỏi của người trẻ. Nhưng dù đề cập tới nội dung gì, không khó để nhận ra sự chân thành, thẳng thắn và đầy sôi nổi của người đàn ông đang giữ trọng trách chèo lái con thuyền NextTech.
Một vị Shark đã từng thừa nhận với chúng tôi ông ấy đến Shark Tank để hỗ trợ startup, nhưng cũng để PR cho bản thân và doanh nghiệp. Còn ông thì sao?
Nói thật về sự nổi tiếng, cá nhân tôi không cần thêm nữa. Từ năm 2000 khi bắt đầu lập nghiệp tôi đã được truyền thông, báo chí nhắc đến như một trong những giám đốc trẻ nhất Việt Nam, lập doanh nghiệp từ năm 19 tuổi. Trong suốt quá trình 20 năm làm việc và sáng tạo vừa qua, hàng trăm bài báo, phóng sự đã nói tới chúng tôi, nên bản thân Shark Bình hay NextTech cũng không quá cần PR thêm nữa. Thậm chí trong 5 năm gần đây, tôi còn chủ động chìm đi để đẩy CEO các công ty thành viên nổi lên.
Khi vào Shark Tank tôi không có động cơ quảng bá, vì mình có tiếng sẵn rồi. Vậy nên bạn sẽ thắc mắc lý do tại sao đúng không?
Một là NextTech muốn đầu tư vào các startup trong lĩnh vực truyền thống nhưng được tiếp sức bởi công nghệ. Như chúng ta thấy có nhiều startup truyền thống cực kỳ thành công khi tận dụng công nghệ ví dụ như Thế Giới Di Động. Hay một ông lớn trong lĩnh vực truyền thống như Vingroup cũng xác định tầm nhìn phải tận dụng công nghệ để phát triển.
Lý do thứ hai là Next100 (quỹ đầu tư của NextTech, PV) muốn được truyền đạt, đào tạo và tìm kiếm nhân tài cho hệ sinh thái của mình, đồng thời qua đó phổ cập một số kiến thức cơ bản về startup cho giới trẻ Việt Nam, góp phần lan tỏa tinh thần doanh nhân.
Ba là cảnh báo, ngăn chặn các startup đang thiếu thực tế, 90% đi vào con đường thất bại.
Tôi còn nhớ tập đầu tiên ông xuất hiện, khán giả chia làm 2 phe rõ ràng: Một bên khen Shark Bình thẳng thắn, thực tế, nhưng một bên cho rằng ông quá “phũ”, sẵn sàng “tạt gáo nước lạnh” vào ước mơ của startup. Ông nhìn nhận thế nào về điều này?
Thực ra đây chính là cá tính con người của tôi, nên tôi thấy hết sức bình thường. Bất kỳ ai có cá tính riêng hoặc cá tính mạnh thì bao giờ cũng có người yêu, người ghét. Nhưng rõ ràng người thành công là người có cá tính, không phải là người ba phải.
Ngoài ra như tôi hay nói và viết, thương trường rất khắc nghiệt và khốc liệt. Từ trước đến nay, cách cổ vũ startup của chúng ta, tất nhiên có mặt tốt và tích cực, nhưng để nói về tiêu cực thì không phải không có. Đó là sự tô hồng thái quá, làm cho các bạn trẻ nghĩ rằng đây là cơ hội làm giàu nhanh và dễ.
Chúng ta hay nói các câu chuyện thành công, về các tỷ phú, về Jack Ma, Bill Gates nhưng hãy nhớ rằng đằng sau câu chuyện thành công là hàng ngàn doanh nghiệp khác đã phải bỏ xác dưới chân thành. Tôi muốn chỉ cho giới trẻ thấy mặt sau của khởi nghiệp đó là hơn 90% startup bỏ mạng, làm mất tiền của cá nhân, gia đình, bạn bè, nhà đầu tư. Tiếp đó là mất cơ hội, mất thời gian, và quan trọng nhất là mất niềm tin, vì mất niềm tin đồng nghĩa với mất tất cả.
Tôi không đồng ý quan điểm mình thấy startup chết mà mình lại bảo “ý tưởng của bạn tốt đấy nhưng không phù hợp với tôi nên tôi không đầu tư”. Vậy là rất nguy hiểm vì họ sẽ tiếp tục làm kéo theo nhiều hậu quả xảy ra.
Với startup tốt, cơ hội thành công rõ ràng tôi đầu tư ngay không cần hỏi câu nào, nôm na là “yêu từ cái nhìn đầu tiên”. Nhưng nếu tôi cảm giác startup đang đi vào chỗ chết, mình thương họ quá làm sao đứng nhìn được, nên mình phải can họ lại. Mà muốn can ngăn thì không thể được, phải có cách nào đó đủ mạnh để họ nhìn lại bản thân và mô hình của họ.
Ông từng nói nhiều lần nói rằng “thái độ quan trọng hơn trình độ”, cũng như đánh giá cao tố chất của đội ngũ sáng lập khi tiến hành lựa chọn các startup. Tại sao lại như vậy?
Đơn giản thế này, một đứa trẻ mới sinh ra làm sao ta biết đứa trẻ đó sẽ thành công hay thất bại khi lớn lên? Tưởng như không thể biết được nhưng thực ra vẫn có cách đấy. Các cụ ngày xưa tổng kết một câu thế này: Con nhà tông không giống lông cũng giống cánh, tức là một đứa trẻ sinh ra trong gia đình cơ bản, giỏi giang thì khả năng thành công trong tương lai sẽ cao hơn nhiều những đứa trẻ sinh ra trong môi trường không tốt.
Áp vào việc kinh doanh cũng vậy. Một startup ra đời chính là con đẻ của founder, của đội ngũ sáng lập. Đội ngũ sáng lập có trình độ, năng lực đi kèm thái độ tốt thì startup có cơ hội thành công cao hơn.
Nhiều startup hiện nay thành công hoàn toàn từ tay trắng đi lên, từ sự sáng tạo của đội ngũ sang lập. Mà sự sáng tạo ấy không tự nhiên sinh ra cũng không tự nhiên mất đi, nó nằm sẵn ở trong mỗi con người. Đó là lý do vì sao con người là yếu tố quan trọng nhất với startup.
Vậy còn quan điểm các nhà sáng lập sẵn sàng bán nhà, bán xe để sống chết với startup của mình. Ông có ủng hộ điều này không?
Thực ra thì hành động này cũng có những điểm tích cực, thể hiện các bạn ấy đang sống hết mình, quyết tâm đến cùng với startup của mình, đó là điểm đáng khích lệ.
Nhưng trên hết tôi nghĩ họ phải tỉnh táo. Tôi từng trải qua những giai đoạn startup hết mình, tham gia những trận đánh dốc túi và thua đến kiệt quệ, thậm chí còn suýt phá sản. Từ bài học của mình, tôi không nghĩ startup nên đánh dốc túi chỉ một trận mà thay vào đó cần tập trung tiêu nhỏ giọt để tìm long mạch đã.
Chỉ nên tất tay khi đã thấy được long mạch. Tôi thường ví von tiền tiêu vào startup cũng giống sinh mang binh sĩ trên chiến trường. Nướng tiền trên trên thương trường không khác gì nướng quân trên chiến trường. Có những trận đánh dốc túi lại thất bại thảm hại, như trận Hồ Quý Ly đánh dốc túi nhà Minh chẳng hạn, trong khi nhà Trần áp dụng chiến lược du kích để đánh quân Nguyên Mông lại chiến thắng.
Thay vào đó, tôi nghĩ quan trọng nhất với startup không phải tiền bạc, nhà cửa hay xe cộ, mà là tìm đúng long mạch. Tôi khuyên startup hãy khởi nghiệp khôn ngoan trước khi nghĩ đến chuyện đánh dốc túi.
Mùa này, Shark Việt đã rót vốn vào Triip, Shark Hưng vừa tổ chức lễ ký cam kết đầu tư với mạng xã hội du lịch Astra, còn Shark Bình thì sao?
Trong Shark Tank mùa này, chúng tôi có offer với 4 startup và hiện đang trong giai đoạn DD (Due Diligence – Thẩm định doanh nghiệp, PV). Có 1 startup đã chốt và chúng tôi chắc chắn sẽ xuống tiền, còn 3 startup kia vẫn đang tiếp tục DD theo đúng cam kết đưa ra. Tất nhiên nếu startup đòi hỏi thêm, ví dụ định giá cao hơn trên sóng truyền hình, chúng tôi cũng sẵn sàng thôi nhưng phải hợp lý và xứng đáng.
Gác lại chuyện Shark Tank và khởi nghiệp sang một bên, để tự đánh giá thì ngoài đời ông là người thế nào, có giống hình ảnh trên sóng truyền hình không?
Ngoài đời tôi là người dân dã, gần gũi, thân thiện, hài hước. Còn trong công việc tôi cũng thẳng thắn, không lòng vòng và luôn có bản năng sáng tạo.
Ông có sở thích cá nhân nào đặc biệt không?
Thứ nhất là đọc. Tôi luôn lưu danh sách những thứ cần đọc, kể cả đi toilet 5 phút cũng tranh thủ đọc, từ kinh tế, chính trị đến kinh doanh, tín tức,… Tôi đọc lung tung vậy thôi nhưng kiến thức tự nhiên ngấm vào người lúc nào không hay.
Về mặt thể chất, tôi có chơi golf nhưng không nhiều. Gần đây tôi chơi MMA, môn nâng cao thể lực qua chiến đấu.
Có quyển sách nào ông tâm đắc và muốn giới thiệu đến người trẻ không?
Tôi hơi khác người một chút, tôi không khuyên người trẻ đọc sách kinh doanh mà khuyên các bạn nên đọc về lịch sử, trước là lịch sử Việt Nam và sau là lịch sử Trung Quốc.
Trong suốt hàng nghìn năm qua loài người chứng kiến nhiều sự thay đổi, từ công nghệ, đời sống, văn hoá cho đến hình thức trang phục,… Duy nhất một thứ không đổi là cách con người đối xử với nhau. Tất cả những kế sách, mưu mẹo đang diễn ra hôm nay đã từng diễn ra trong quá khứ, trong lịch sử.
Muốn thành công hãy đọc lịch sử. Tất cả những trận đánh lớn đều có thể cho bạn những bài học để áp dụng vào cuộc sống, không chỉ trên thương trường mà cả trong đời sống cá nhân.
Ngoài lịch sử theo ông người trẻ cần trau dồi thêm kiến thức gì nữa để thích ứng trong một xã hội luôn biến đổi như hiện nay?
Tôi khuyên người trẻ nên tập trung học mấy thứ sau.
Một là, các kiến thức cơ bản về kinh doanh, cho dù bản thân các bạn có kinh doanh hay không. Ngay trong cuộc sống hàng ngày, các bạn cũng phải tính toán các khoản thu nhập, chi tiêu, tiết kiệm, các khoản lãi lỗ,… không khác gì đang vận hành một doanh nghiệp. Thay vì làm theo bản năng, hãy học thêm kiến thức kinh doanh, kể cả bạn có kinh doanh hay không, vì những điều đó sẽ ngấm vào máu, làm các bạn căn cơ và khôn lên rất nhiều.
Thứ hai, các bạn trẻ cần hiểu biết về công nghệ, có thể không đến mức làm chủ nhưng phải biết các công cụ công nghệ càng sớm càng tốt. Như vậy họ sẽ tăng thêm sức cạnh tranh cho bản thân trên thị trường lao động sau này.
Ngoài ra việc học trên trường lớp và học Tiếng Anh là chuyện hiển nhiên rồi.
Nhưng người ta hay bảo bây giờ những người như ông thành công rồi, nói gì cũng đúng, khuyên gì cũng đúng. Ông nghĩ sao?
Tôi nghĩ vũ trụ này vận hành trên thuyết tương đối. Có một câu trong Shark Tank rất viral, đó là khi Shark Việt bảo “Đã làm thì phải nghĩ đến thất bại”, còn Shark Hưng lại nói “Đã làm thì đừng nghĩ đến thất bại”.
Tôi thấy chẳng câu nào đúng, chẳng câu nào sai. Thuyết tương đối là cái gì cũng tương đối, sự thật nào cũng tương đối và chỉ tuyệt đối trong hệ quy chiếu nào thôi. Như vậy bất kỳ những gì tôi nói có thể phù hợp với người này nhưng không hợp với người khác và chuyện ấy rất bình thường.
Thay vì nhìn vào bài học thành công của người thành công, chúng ta hãy cố gắng tìm ra các bài học thất bại của họ để tự tránh cho mình. 100 trường hợp khởi sự kinh doanh thì 99% thất bại, 1% kia thành công cũng phần nhiều từ may mắn nữa. Các bạn trẻ nên tìm hiểu bài học thất bại, hơn là chăm chăm nhhìn vào bài học thành công của người khác.
