Năm 2016, Hợp tác với World Land Trust, The Body Shop đã thiết lập Cầu sinh thái đầu tiên trong rừng Động Châu – Khe Nước Trong ở Quảng Bình, Việt Nam, như một cách phục hồi hành lang động vật hoang dã giúp các loài có nguy cơ tuyệt chủng kết nối lại, cho phép chúng và các loài động vật địa phương phát triển mạnh.
Trong quá trình diễn ra chiến dịch, mỗi khi khách hàng thực hiện giao dịch tại bất kỳ cửa hàng nào của The Body Shop trên toàn thế giới, nhà bán lẻ sẽ trồng, bảo vệ hoặc tái tạo một mét vuông rừng, từ đó xây dựng những cây cầu sinh thái đầu tiên.
Reggie là tên một chú voọc chà vá chân đỏ ở Việt Nam. Chà vá chân đỏ là một trong những loài sẽ được tạo cơ hội sống an toàn và hỗ trợ sinh sản thông qua dự án cầu sinh thái Bio-Bridges. Dự án này đã được quảng bá tới người tiêu dùng trực tuyến khi họ mua hàng và ngay tại các cửa hàng của The Body Shop ở 65 các nước trên thế giới.
Thông qua một chiến dịch có tên “Help Reggie Find Love”, The Body Shop hy vọng sẽ nâng cao nhận thức của cộng đồng trong những vấn đề nghiêm trọng về mất đa dạng sinh học, theo cách hấp dẫn và giải trí.
Dự án cũng hợp tác với Trung tâm bảo tồn thiên nhiên Việt Nam Vietnature, để bảo vệ khu vực và động vật hoang dã thông qua việc tuần tra và sử dụng bẫy camera thường xuyên. Họ cũng phối hợp chặt chẽ với cộng đồng địa phương để khuyến khích sử dụng và canh tác tài nguyên rừng bền vững. Sau đó họ tuyên truyền ở các trường học để khuyến khích sự tham gia của cộng đồng.
Vén bức màn đen tối của công nghiệp mỹ phẩm
Ngành công nghiệp mỹ phẩm ẩn chứa rất nhiều sự tàn nhẫn mà người dùng không nhìn thấy được.
Để thử nghiệm kích ứng trên da, động vật thí nghiệm bị cạo trụi lông và thử trực tiếp chất hóa học để kiểm tra độ thích ứng và ăn mòn da.
Sau đó, người ta sẽ nhỏ trực tiếp chất hóa học gây ăn mòn da vào mắt của động vật – khi chúng vẫn còn thức – để đánh giá mô mắt bị hủy hoại.
Đáng sợ hơn, để thử liều dùng gây tác dụng phụ, động vật thí nghiệm sẽ bị ép đưa vào cơ thể một lượng chất độc bằng cách bơm trực tiếp vào dạ dày, thổi hơi độc hoặc tiêm. Thử nghiệm này chỉ dừng lại khi một nửa số lượng động vật thí nghiệm chết.
Và cuối cùng là thí nghiệm ảnh hưởng của độc tính đến sinh sản. Các nhà thí nghiệm sẽ ép động vật đang mang thai ăn thành phần mỹ phẩm, sau đó bị giết chết cùng thai nhi. Con non sẽ được lấy ra kiểm nghiệm và phát hiện độc tính sinh sản.
Các thí nghiệm đa số sẽ được thực hiện trên thỏ và chuột. Tuy nhiên, đôi khi chó, khỉ, lợn,… cũng không ngoại lệ. Theo Cruelty Free International, hàng năm có tới 500 triệu cá thể động vật bị đem ra làm thí nghiệm phục vụ cho ngành công nghiệp mỹ phẩm. Đa số chúng đều chết. Động vật thí nghiệm bị đối xử thậm tệ, chúng không được chăm sóc cho dù có đang ở trong thời kỳ thai sản.
Phía sau vẻ hào nhoáng của các loại mỹ phẩm là một bức màn đen tối mà ít ai biết đến. Sau cánh cửa phòng thí nghiệm mỹ phẩm chính là địa ngục của những con vật đáng thương bị đem làm thí nghiệm.
Một thí nghiệm đã cho thấy, khi một con chuột bị tiếp xúc với các kích thích đau đớn, nó cũng thể hiện nét mặt rất giống con người khi bị đau. Nhiều động vật sống trong các phòng thí nghiệm còn mắc chứng trầm cảm, lo âu và rối loạn tâm lý nặng nề.
The Body Shop là thương hiệu làm đẹp quốc tế đầu tiên chống lại việc sử dụng động vật để thử nghiệm mỹ phẩm. Trong hơn ba thập kỉ, họ đã làm việc với đối tác chiến lược – tổ chức Cruelty Free International, nỗ lực kêu gọi Liên Minh Châu Âu ban hành lệnh cấm thử nghiệm trên động vật. Và họ đã thành công vào năm 2013.
“Động vật liên tục bị tra tấn và giết hại để phục vụ cái đẹp. Chúng tôi muốn chấm dứt hoàn toàn sự tàn nhẫn này trên khắp thế giới” – lời kêu gọi của The Body Shop.
The Body Shop là một trong những công ty đầu tiên được nhận logo của Leaping Bunny vào năm 1997. Logo Leaping Bunny là chứng nhận “không thử nghiệm trên động vật” duy nhất được công nhận trên toàn thế giới. Chứng nhận này giúp khách hàng dễ dàng nhận biết và mua mỹ. Đó là chứng nhận duy nhất yêu cầu mỗi công ty công khai quy trình kiểm nghiệm độc lập xuyên suốt quá trình sản xuất để đảm bảo rằng họ tuân theo chính sách về việc thử nghiệm trên động vật và những quy tắc nghiêm ngặt của Leaping Bunny.
Với bộ lông đặc trưng 5 màu nổi bật, được tôn vinh là “nữ hoàng” của các loài linh trưởng – Voọc chà vá chân đỏ là loài linh trưởng đặc hữu của Đông Dương. Trên thế giới, voọc là loài có nguy cơ tuyệt chủng cao khi chỉ còn dưới 2.000 cá thể, trong đó Việt Nam chiếm 50%.
